Content Engine Setup (reference)
Every setting of the module on one card: the master switch, the scope, the rule limits, the Copilot section and the result of the last run. The fastest path through the initial configuration is the step-by-step guide.
How to get there: Via Tell me Content Engine Setup, via Assisted Setup → Set up the merchantCENTRAL Content Engine, or in the merchantCENTRAL Setup under Extensions via Set Up next to Content Engine. The same fields appear as the part Content Engine Settings directly on the central extension card — it is the same source, not a second setup.
General
| Field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | Master switch. Off = no audit runs, no findings are written, no draft is made and no proposal can be applied. Existing findings stay, but they age | On |
| Audit Offline Items | Whether listings that are not online on their marketplace are audited as well. Off means the audit filters to the online listings — a listing nobody can find needs no search engine text yet | Off |
Rule limits
The limits are what search engines display, not what a channel accepts: a meta title of 70 characters is valid in every shop and still cut off on the result page. That is why the audit warns at the display limit. Every limit is a setting rather than a constant, because the right value shifts with the search engines — a customer who knows better must not need a release.
A limit of 0 switches that check off.
| Field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title Min. Length | Minimum number of characters of the listing title. Shorter yields the warning Title Too Short | 20 |
| Title Max. Length | Maximum number of characters of the listing title. Longer yields the warning Title Too Long | 150 |
| Meta Title Min. Length | Minimum number of characters of the meta title. Shorter yields Meta Title Too Short | 30 |
| Meta Title Max. Length | Maximum number of characters of the meta title. Search engines display about 60; longer yields Meta Title Too Long | 60 |
| Meta Description Min. Length | Minimum number of characters of the meta description. Shorter yields Meta Description Too Short | 70 |
| Meta Description Max. Length | Maximum number of characters of the meta description. Search engines display about 155; longer yields Meta Description Too Long | 155 |
| Description Min. Length | Minimum number of visible characters of the product description, HTML tags not counted. Shorter yields Description Too Short | 300 |
| Min. Images | How many images a listing should have. Fewer yields the warning Too Few Images; no image at all is always an error, regardless of this value | 1 |
Not every rule has a limit: missing fields, invalid slugs, duplicates and the identity data are checked without a setting. The complete rule set with its severities is under Findings.
Copilot drafts
Drafts use the Azure OpenAI resource of the merchantCENTRAL AI Setup and count against its monthly token budget. Endpoint, deployment and key live there — what lives here is only what is about listing content.
| Field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Content Language | The language Copilot drafts listing texts in. Empty means the language of the user who asks for the draft. The language name goes into every prompt | empty |
| Style Instructions | Free text in your own words on how drafted texts should sound — e.g. address the reader formally, name the product family first, never mention competitors. Added to every draft and takes precedence over the general tone rules | empty |
| Max. Proposals per Run | How many listings one batch drafts at most. Every draft is one AI call against the monthly token budget. 0 removes the limit |
50 |
The limits from the Rule limits section go into the prompt as well: the model is told the same numbers the audit will later check the finished text against. Details: Copilot Drafts.
Last audit
Three non-editable fields recording the last run — the dashboard shows the same values:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Last Audit Run | When the SEO audit last ran |
| Last Audit Items | How many listings that run checked |
| Last Audit Findings | How many findings it produced |
License
License FactBox
The FactBox on the right shows the state of the module CONTENTENGINE. Without an active license the engine audits nothing, drafts nothing and applies no proposal — the setup stays fully usable, so you can finish configuring before licensing. A demo can be started once per tenant and module; the action Activate in Hub leads to the central extension card, where the license check and the demo registration run. In sandbox environments the module runs without a license.
That applying a proposal also depends on the license is deliberate: a draft costs the customer tokens, and an applied text without the following re-audit would leave the listing with findings that no longer describe it.
Actions
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Create Job Queue Entry | Creates or refreshes the daily run. A message confirms the schedule and points out that the time can be changed in the Job Queue Entries |
| Activate in Hub | Opens the central extension card in the merchantCENTRAL hub, where this module is activated. If the entry does not exist yet, the setup cockpit opens instead |
| Dashboard | Opens the Content Engine dashboard with the findings of the last audit |
You do not start the runs here
The setup card holds settings, the dashboard holds the work: Run SEO Audit and Draft Content for Errors are there, along with the numbers that say whether a run is worth it.
