Amazon: Prices and Offers
The Amazon connector does not calculate prices itself. Prices come from the sales price lists per Amazon country, which the Price Engine writes. The connector only decides which offers an item has on Amazon, sends them, and records what Amazon has confirmed.
Price lists per country
Every Amazon country your seller account takes part in (e.g. DE, FR, SE) is a sales channel of the Amazon marketplace in the hub. On the Marketplace Card you assign each channel its lists:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Price List Code | The sales price list of the country. The price of the consumer offer comes from it. |
| Business Price List Code | Optional. The price list for business customers (Amazon Business). The business price and its quantity discounts come from it. Details: Business price. |
- Gross in the country's currency. Amazon expects prices including VAT in the currency of the country. Keep each list in the sales currency of its channel (amazon.se in SEK, amazon.pl in PLN) and with Prices Including VAT. If the currency of a list does not match its channel, the channel gets a price error. The business price list needs the same currency and VAT basis as the price list of the channel.
- Taken over before every price sync. The hub writes the list prices onto the marketplace item and sets Update Price when a price has changed. Every price passes the price check first.
- No price, no offer. If an item has no price for Amazon, no offer goes out for it. The Price Error field of the marketplace item or the message of the action says why, for example when listing or in Diagnose Sync Issues.
- Price Fixed. An item with Price Fixed keeps the price entered by hand; the hub does not overwrite it from the list.
Offer Audience
Amazon keeps up to two offers for an item: the consumer offer (audience ALL) and the business offer (audience B2B). Which of them an item has is decided by Offer Audience:
| Value | Consumer offer | Business offer |
|---|---|---|
| B2C and B2B | Price from the price list | Price from the business price list, if the item is on it. Otherwise there is no business offer. |
| B2B Only | none | From the business price list, if the channel has one; an item without a price on it is then not offered. If the channel has no business price list, the price comes from the regular price list. |
| B2C Only | Price from the price list | none |
With B2C and B2B, the business offer also requires a price on the price list: without it, no offer at all goes out for the item.
Default and exception:
- The default is set on the Amazon account: Default Offer Audience in the Offer Settings section of the Amazon Settings. When you change it, a confirmation states the number of items that follow the default.
- Per item you override it with Offer Audience on the Item Card, or for several items with Set Offer Audience in the Item List. The value Account Default follows the default again.
- Reset Item Offer Audience on the account card hands all items with a value of their own back to the default.
Every change goes to Amazon with the next price sync.
Quantity discounts
The business offer carries the quantity discounts (quantity_discount_plan) of the list its price comes from: the business price list, or for B2B Only without a business price list, the regular price list. Amazon takes up to five tiers; the ones with the lowest quantities count. Tier prices are per unit including VAT. The consumer offer has no tiers.
Amazon fees and competitor prices
The Price Engine handles both. The connector only supplies the data.
Fees. When calculating an Amazon price list, the Price Engine asks the connector for the fees. The connector raises the price so that the calculated price is left after the Amazon fees:
- The Referral Fee % applies to the gross price. As long as an item has no fee estimate yet, 15% is used.
- The closing fee, the per-item fee and, for FBA items, the fulfillment fee are added as fixed amounts, provided the list is kept in the currency of the country.
- The estimates are fetched by the fees job (04:10), Update All Fee Estimates on the dashboard and Fetch Fees in the item list. They are based on the gross price from the price list.
The Calculation Log shows the fee markup of the connector as a step of its own.
Competitor prices. From Amazon's notifications about changed offers (ANY_OFFER_CHANGED, B2B_ANY_OFFER_CHANGED), the connector writes the lowest price of the other sellers per country to the hub as a competitor price, with the BuyBox price as reference. Your own offer does not count. Business offers go to the business price list, all others to the price list of the country. How the Price Engine reacts is set per price list: Repricing. This requires notifications to be set up.
The market prices on the item card and the item list (Fetch Market Prices, Fetch BuyBox Status) are for comparison only. They do not go to the Price Engine.
Sending, withdrawal and confirmation
The price and inventory sync sends the offers of all items with Update Price. The job (every 30 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00) is created with Setup Price & Inventory Sync Job on the dashboard. Every quantity goes out with the handling time as lead_time_to_ship_max_days.
Withdrawal. If Amazon has an offer the item no longer makes, the price sync withdraws it, for example after a switch to B2B Only or when the item was removed from the business price list. This also applies when the item has no price at the moment. An offer is only gone once Amazon has confirmed the withdrawal. If Amazon rejects it, the offer stays and is withdrawn again with the next run.
Confirmation. A price only counts as published once Amazon has confirmed the feed and the item still carries the price that was sent. If the Price Engine has calculated a new price in the meantime, that one goes out again. As long as a withdrawal is pending, the price of the item is not confirmed.
These fields of the Amazon item record which offers Amazon has. On the card and the list you can show them with Personalize:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Consumer Offer Live / Business Offer Live | Amazon has the consumer or business offer. Set when Amazon confirms a feed with this price; cleared when Amazon confirms the withdrawal. |
| Sent Price / Sent Business Price | The gross prices the pending price feed sent. |
| Pending Withdrawal Feed Id | The feed that is currently withdrawing offers. |
Handling time
The handling time tells Amazon how many working days it takes until an order ships. It applies to all items and is set on the Amazon account: Default Handling Time (Days) in the Fulfillment Settings section, default 2 days. A hub building block for the handling time per supplier is planned.
