Amazon FBA Open Losses

This page shows units that Amazon lost or damaged in its fulfillment centers and has neither reimbursed nor found again – with the last day on which you can file a reimbursement claim for them in Seller Central. Amazon owes you money for such units; without a claim, the entitlement expires.

Opening the Page

  • Via search: Amazon FBA Open Losses (also Amazon reimbursement claim, FBA lost inventory, FBA damaged inventory)
  • Via the Amazon Dashboard → Related → FBA Open Losses

FBA only

The page only opens if Enable FBA is turned on in the Amazon Settings.

What a Loss Is

A loss is a decrease in the Amazon FBA Ledger Entries – an adjustment with a negative quantity – whose Amazon reason is marked as Reimbursable in the Amazon FBA Adjustment Reasons. By default, these are the reasons M and 5 (misplaced at the fulfillment center) as well as 6, 7 and E (damaged at the fulfillment center). Ignored ledger entries never count.

The Claim Deadline is the event date plus 60 days. A loss whose deadline had already passed when the connector first saw it does not appear.

How a Loss Is Settled

The returns import (the REFUNDS job or Import Returns on the Amazon Dashboard) matches the losses after each run, Match Reimbursements on this page does it right away. Losses are settled per SKU, the oldest open loss first, in the order in which things happened:

  • Units found again – adjustments with reason F (found at the fulfillment center) of the same SKU after the loss. Reason N (found after a transfer or reimbursement) settles nothing: for such units, Amazon reverses the reimbursement.
  • Reimbursements – reimbursements with reason Lost_Warehouse or Damaged_Warehouse of the same SKU that Amazon approved after the loss (see Amazon FBA Reimbursements). Reimbursements for other reasons, such as for returns, do not settle a loss.

What remains is listed on this page. Once a loss is fully settled, it disappears.

Actions

Action Description
Match Reimbursements Matches the losses with the units that Amazon found again and the reimbursements read so far. The message states the number of losses still open. The returns job does this on every run.
Close Loss After a confirmation, takes the selected losses off this list – for a claim that was settled differently or that you are not filing. The ledger entry gets Closed Manually. If a reimbursement for the SKU comes later after all, it is still assigned to this loss and does not settle any other.
FBA Reimbursements Opens the Amazon FBA Reimbursements: what Amazon paid for lost or damaged units.
FBA Adjustment Reasons Opens the Amazon FBA Adjustment Reasons: the Amazon reasons and which of them are reimbursable.

Tips

Claim in Seller Central

Work through the list by Claim Deadline: red lines expire within the next 7 days. You file the claim in Seller Central with SKU or FNSKU, quantity and date. As soon as Amazon has reimbursed and the returns import has read the reimbursement, the loss disappears on its own.

Inventory and money kept apart

This page only concerns the money. Suggest FBA Adjustments posts the inventory of the FBA location from the Amazon FBA Ledger Entries – the loss as a decrease, a later find as an increase. The reimbursement itself comes with the settlement (add-on module, see Settlements).

Which reasons count

The reasons H, K and U (damaged or defective, not by Amazon) are not reimbursable. You change whether a reason counts in the Amazon FBA Adjustment Reasons with Reimbursable; the change affects losses that have not been recognized as a loss yet.
