Channel Item Card and Pictures

A Shopify listing opens the hub's channel item card — the same card as for every channel, with general data, SEO texts, status and gallery. Shopify adds only two things there:

  • the field Shopify Product Id and
  • the action Shopify Product, which opens the product in Microsoft's product list.

This is where you maintain the texts for Shopify: brand and manufacturer (for the vendor field and metafields), SEO title, SEO description and keywords (as Shopify tags). The description comes from the hub's central content cascade.

Which picture Shopify shows

The gallery shows all pictures of the item. The ticks decide which pictures this shop gets, the star marks the shop's cover.

For Shopify, the star is what counts. Microsoft's connector sends one picture per product, always the Business Central item picture. Upload to channel therefore makes the cover the item picture and starts Microsoft's image sync for this shop.

The chosen picture stays the item picture. Microsoft's connector keeps a checksum of the item picture per product and sends again whenever it differs. A picture swapped back would overwrite the chosen one on the next image run. The previous picture stays in the gallery and can become the cover again at any time.

One item picture for all shops

An item has one item picture. Two Shopify shops therefore cannot show different pictures — the last upload applies to both.

Prerequisites
Shop Sync Item Images is set to To Shopify on Microsoft's shop card.
Listing The item already exists in the shop.
Gallery At least one picture

If one is missing, the message says why instead of reporting success.

The image run covers the whole shop, not the item. In practice only the changed picture goes out, because every other product stops at its checksum. If a picture of another item changed since the last image run, it goes out as well.

What does not work

  • Fetching pictures from Shopify. Business Central stores no picture addresses.
  • Product documents. Microsoft's connector cannot upload files to Shopify.
  • Several pictures per product. Variant pictures come from the picture of the item variant.
