Translate the Marketing Text
The marketing text on the item card is written in the language of item texts. Sales channels in another language do not get it – they get the marketing text of their language, kept once per item and language. The SEO Engine lets Copilot translate that text. Two sentences describe the procedure:
It is translated, not rewritten. Every fact of the marketing text arrives, none is added, and the paragraphs stay where they were.
No translation reaches a channel without a person. Every draft is reviewed before it counts as the marketing text of its language. The marketing text on the item card is never changed.
Starting a translation
Item card → Marketing Texts in Other Languages → Translate Marketing Text.
- With a Language chosen on the page, the text is translated into that language.
- With no language chosen, it is translated into every channel language without a text (Without Text).
The action appears only when the SEO Engine is active and licensed and the Marketing Text Translation capability is switched on (see Requirements). If the item has no marketing text, no dialog opens – a message says why: the translation is made from the marketing text on the item card, and that has to be there first.
The Copilot dialog
| Area | Content |
|---|---|
| Instruction (top, optional) | A term to use, a form of address, or what was wrong with the last translation. Two suggestions cover the most common wishes: Address the buyer formally and Keep English technical terms. |
| Style | Faithful translation (default) or Adapted to the market – see below. |
| Language | The language whose translation is shown below. Choose another to read and edit its translation. |
| Languages | Every language of the request with its state: translated, not translated (with the reason), or not translated yet. |
| Translation | The translated text of the chosen language. It can be edited; a translation you empty is not kept. |
| Marketing Text | The marketing text on the item card, for comparison. It is never changed. |
| Button | Effect |
|---|---|
| Translate | Translates into every language of the request – one AI call per language. |
| Translate again | Translates only the language shown again, e.g. after changing the instruction or the style. If the call fails, the previous translation stays. |
| Keep it | Writes every language that has a translation as the marketing text of that language. Each is recorded as an applied marketing text proposal. A language that cannot be written stays as an open proposal; a message counts what was kept and what was not. |
| Discard | Closes without keeping anything. |
Kept texts carry the origin Copilot and flag every listing that sells in that language for an update – the channels send them with the next item upload.
Faithful or adapted to the market
| Rule | Faithful translation | Adapted to the market |
|---|---|---|
| Facts | Every statement, fact and number arrives. Nothing is added: no claim, benefit, specification, compatibility or certification that is not in the marketing text. | The same. |
| Wording | Sentence by sentence, tone and length as in the original – not polished, shortened or extended. | Free: the way a copywriter of that language writes for its buyers. Your Style Instructions from the setup apply here – to the wording, never to the facts. |
| Structure | The same paragraphs in the same order, every line break, lists as lists. HTML tags stay unchanged. | Paragraphs and lists in their order; a sentence may be rephrased, merged or split, a paragraph may not be dropped. |
| Names | Brand, product, model and series names, part numbers and EANs stay as they are written. | The same. |
| Numbers and units | In the notation of the target market (decimal and thousands separators, unit symbols, spacing). No value is changed, none converted into another system of measurement. | The same. |
The model is given the marketing text, the item description and the manufacturer – the last two only to recognise names by, not as material for the text. The target language is named with its culture where Business Central knows it: French in Belgium writes numbers differently from French in France.
Marketing text proposals
Every translation is a marketing text proposal for exactly one item and one language – without a marketplace, because the text applies to every channel of that language. Reach them through the search Marketing Text Proposals or the Marketing Text Proposals action on the dashboard.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Proposed | Translated and not yet decided. Only in this status can it be edited, applied or rejected. |
| Applied | Written as the marketing text of the language. |
| Rejected | Turned down; the marketing text of the language stayed as it was. |
| Failed | The translation did not come back. The reason is in Error Text. |
| Withdrawn | The item was deleted before anyone decided. |
The proposal card shows the proposed translation (editable while the proposal is open), the marketing text on the item card and the text the language has today. Actions: Apply, Reject and Translate Again (with the style and instruction on the card). In the list, several marked proposals can be applied or rejected in one go. After an apply, the audit checks the listings whose findings were about this translation again at once – a Translation Outdated finding does not wait for the next run to go.
A translation of a changed marketing text is not applied. Every proposal remembers a fingerprint of the marketing text it was translated from. If the marketing text has changed since, the card shows Marketing Text Changed and Apply refuses – otherwise the old translation would count as current, and nobody would see any more that it misses the change. Translate Again translates the marketing text as it is now.
Outdated translations
When the marketing text on the item card changes, its translations are outdated: the channels of the other languages keep sending the old wording.
The audit reports it. For every listing in another language than the item texts whose channel takes a description and that actually sends the marketing text of that language, the audit checks whether it was translated from today's marketing text. A listing with a description of its own in that language does not send the translation and gets no finding. If not, it reports Translation Outdated (warning), with the language on the finding.
The draft job translates again – as a proposal. The scheduled draft run (Draft for New Listings Automatically) translates the outdated marketing texts again after the listing drafts:
- only in the languages under Automatic Drafts in Other Languages in the setup – a proposal in a language nobody reads is money spent on a text nobody checks;
- within Automatic Drafts per Run, after the listing drafts;
- always faithfully and never applied: every translation waits for your review as a proposal;
- once per item and language for each version of the marketing text. An open, applied or rejected proposal of today's marketing text settles the language until the marketing text changes again – a rejection is a decision. A failed call is retried on the next runs, at most three times;
- after three failures in a row the run stops – then the cause is not the texts but, for example, the budget or the endpoint.
A missing translation is not this run's business: for that, it drafts the listing texts of the language.
Requirements
| Requirement | Where |
|---|---|
| Language of item texts | merchantCENTRAL setup. Without it merchantCENTRAL tells no languages apart. |
| Azure OpenAI – endpoint, deployment and key | merchantCENTRAL AI setup |
| Capability "Marketing Text Translation" switched on | The Business Central page Copilot & AI capabilities. It can be switched off independently of "Listing Content Draft". |
Licence SEOENGINE active |
Without it no translation and no apply. A demo translates for the same 20 items it drafts listing texts for – an item counts once, however many languages. |
As with every AI feature, the cost runs through the hub's AI setup and its monthly token budget.
