Product Data

AD merchantCENTRAL Product Data – Product Data for short – maintains item attributes for many items at once and builds the texts of your listings from them. It adds to the attribute building block of the merchantCENTRAL Hub the tools you miss once there are hundreds or thousands of items: see which attributes are missing on which marketplace, change values in one go, edit them in Excel, generate texts per sales channel, and let an AI suggest missing values.

Feature Overview

Feature What you do with it
Completeness per Sales Channel A score per listing, sales channel and language for how complete its attributes are – by the same rules merchantCENTRAL checks when sending. A worklist shows what is missing and opens the bulk tool, the Excel export or the AI suggestions straight for the selected items
Tools Set, add, replace or remove an attribute value on many items; copy the attributes of a well-maintained item to others; merge two values that mean the same into one; give every attribute a hint for maintenance
Excel Export item attributes – one worksheet per item category, one column per attribute –, edit them in Excel and import only the changed values. A preview shows every change before anything is written
Text Templates Build title, subtitle, description and key features per marketplace and item category from the attributes, in the language of the sales channel. Texts changed by hand stay
AI Suggestions Let an AI suggest missing required and recommended attributes and an item category from the item's own facts, with evidence and confidence. Nothing is written before you have reviewed and applied the suggestions
Dashboard Attribute stock, completeness, text templates, waiting items and the state of the module at a glance

What the module deliberately does not do

  • It creates no items and no listings. It maintains the attributes of the items you carry and the texts of the listings that exist.
  • It never overwrites a higher-ranking value. Every value goes through the hub's central writer with its origin. What a person entered by hand is not replaced by an automatic source.
  • It sends nothing to a marketplace itself. The texts land on the listing; the connector transfers them with the next item update.

How Product Data fits with the other building blocks

Hub (attribute building block). The merchantCENTRAL Hub holds the attribute model: Item Attribute Values with several values per attribute and their origin, Attribute Rules per item category, Attribute Compliance, Value Mappings per marketplace and the content profile of every sales channel. How the values reach the marketplaces is described in Marketplace Attributes. All of that exists without Product Data. Product Data adds the work on many items and writes the same way.

Ranking of sources. A source overwrites only what a source of the same or a lower rank wrote: by hand before supplier data before Icecat before the AI. An import you start and check yourself counts as a change by hand.

  • The tools write as entered by hand, the Excel import with the origin Import. Supplier connectors, Icecat and the AI no longer overwrite these values.
  • The AI suggestions write with the origin AI, the lowest rank. A value written by hand, by an import or by Icecat always stays.

Product Enrichment. Product Enrichment fills item attributes from the Icecat catalog. Product Data maintains what Icecat does not deliver or what you want differently. When merging values, an Icecat value stays an Icecat value.

SEO Engine. The SEO Engine audits the texts of your listings and drafts new ones with Copilot. The text templates build texts by fixed rules from the attributes – built the same way for all items of a category. Both work together: a text you applied in the SEO Engine counts as changed by hand for the text templates and stays.

Connectors. Product Data works with every marketplace and shop a merchantCENTRAL connector registers in the hub. The connectors do not know the module and need no changes.

License

Product Data is a module of its own with the module code PRODUCTDATA. The license applies per tenant and module.

  • Demo: free for 30 days, startable once per tenant and module. You register it in the License part of the setup (see Setup). A demo that has been used cannot be started again in a production environment; merchantCENTRAL support releases it then.
  • Without a license and without a running demo the tools are locked. This also applies in a sandbox. Your data stays, and with a valid license everything is as before.
  • The AI suggestions also need an Azure OpenAI resource in the merchantCENTRAL AI Setup. Tools, Excel and text templates run without AI and without an external service.

Getting Started

  1. Make sure the merchantCENTRAL Hub is installed and set up.
  2. Run the assisted setup merchantCENTRAL: Set up Product Data and register the demo there if you have no license yet (Setup).
  3. Switch the module on with Enabled on its extension card.
  4. Open the Product Data Dashboard, open Completeness per Sales Channel and choose Calculate Completeness. The worklist shows where attributes are missing; close the gaps with the tools, the Excel export or the AI suggestions.
  5. Create the first text templates per marketplace.
