Marketplace Text Translation

Marketplaces in other countries show their categories, attributes, allowed values and error messages in their own language: eBay Spain in Spanish, Kaufland Czechia in Czech. So that you can still choose the right category and map the right attribute, merchantCENTRAL translates these short texts into your language and shows the translation next to the original, marked as machine-translated.

For reading only

The marketplace always gets the original text. The translation helps you choose and understand; it is never sent.

Where translations appear

  • Marketplace Categories (category lookup): name and path of every category shown, when the sales channel has another language than yours.
  • Attribute Mappings: column Name (Machine-Translated) for lines in another language. The Translate Names action fills it for the lines shown.

Pages show kept translations only while they are drawn; texts are translated when a level of categories opens or with the action.

What is sent

For the translation only the marketplace's texts go to the AI service of your AI Setup - category paths, attribute names, values, error messages - with the source and the target language. This feature sends no item data, prices or customer data. Error messages of a marketplace can, however, contain details of an order that the marketplace itself put in them.

Each text is translated once and then kept: every user sees the same Spanish category on every page without the AI service being asked again. If the AI service fails or the budget is used up, pages show the kept translations only, and otherwise the original, for the rest of the session.

Check and correct translations

The Marketplace Text Translations page (search) lists all kept translations:

Field Meaning
Source Language / Target Language Language of the original and of the translation, such as ESP → DEU.
Original Text The text as the marketplace has it.
Translation The translation. Change it if it does not fit.
Machine Translated On while the translation comes unchecked from the AI service. A changed translation counts as checked.
Translated At When the text was translated.

Delete a translation and the text is translated again: in the category lookup the next time its level opens, in the attribute mappings with Translate Names. Users with write permission (permission set ALN MC Admin) can change and delete translations.

Switch on and off

Under Copilot & AI capabilities the feature is called Marketplace Text Translation. If an administrator switches it off, pages show the original texts and translations kept already only. The AI Usage Log shows the consumption.
